Conflict in Israel: Engaging in a Digital War

April 14, 2024, 5:00 pm

Rachel Lester fights for the Israeli narrative as a video editor and social media manager for the IDF. A Los Angeles native and graduate of USC, she enlisted in the IDF at age 22 to put her skills of making videos to convey and simplify complicated messages about Israel to work. She served for four years as the Creative Director in the IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit International Branch, and has now been back in reserves since October 7. In her free time, she makes personal videos addressing hard questions she sees the international community asking about Israel on social media (her Instagram is @rachel.in.reserves). She identifies a key part of the conflict in Israel as a “digital war,” combatting disinformation and educating social media users about what’s really happening.
